Department of Health – Primary Health Care COVID-19 Response Teleconference 28 July 2021 – Meeting notes from Dr Maria Boulton

The Primary Care Implementation Group (PCIG) is an online meeting that includes most primary healthcare peak bodies. It is convened weekly by the Department of Health as part of the COVID-19 response. Dr Maria Boulton attends on behalf of the AGPA.

Comments from Taskforce More than 11.58 million COVID vaccines given, 3.5 million of those are dose 2

ATAGI is reviewing Pfizer in 12-15 year olds post TGA approval in those age groups

NSW current outbreak – 11 deaths to date

People who have a combination of 2 vaccines not recognised in AIR as fully immunised person currently, they are looking into this so that it can be rectified

More GPs and community pharmacies joining the rollout

Pfizer vaccines for GPs clinics are not going to be repurposed, the doses available will increase as supplies increase in the country, no exact details

Worldwide shortage on vaccine consumables

Should visitors to aged care and visiting hcws to aged care be required to have mandatory COVID vaccines? Taskforce looking at this

 

Comments from Dr Maria Boulton:

When will details of the indemnity scheme be available? Response: Deputy Secretary started to table the indemnity scheme and they are trying to get something out to stakeholders ASAP.

Can retired doctors and medical students help in the vaccine rollout in General practice? Response: Retired  doctors  are on the pandemic subregister.
The Taskforce will check whether they can be employed by GP clinics to help with COVID vaccines.
Medical students helping in vaccination rollout in GP. Both NSW and Qld have position statements on medical student vaccinators. The Taskforce will clarify this.

Issues Raised by Other Attendees:
Requesting direction on rapid antigen testing use in General Practice. Response- Taskforce will seek clarification

Important to vaccinate rural and remote health workers including allied health professionals, in particular in accessing Pfizer vaccines

Some GP practices not adhering to eligibility criteria. Response-give details to Covid Taskforce to refer to compliance

RACF workers under pressure to access COVID vaccines prior to due date, request everyone be supportive of RACF workforce

Request for data on vaccine doses be shown according to different locations eg rural, metro. Response-AMA has requested the same. The Taskforce is working on it.

Request for more comms on the treatment of TTS to go the public
