AGPA Succeeds with Pfizer for GP

This week 500 GP clinics commenced delivering Pfizer vaccine as well as the Astra Zeneca vaccine. By the end of July a further 1300 GP clinics will join the initial 500. Other GP clinics have also expressed an interest in delivering Pfizer vaccine, but have not been included in this first round.

In April the AGPA ran a survey about the vaccine rollout and the capability of GP to take a greater role. 67% of respondents said they would be very willing (47%) or willing (20%) to administer Pfizer vaccines.

Thanks to everyone who completed the survey. This gave us the data we needed to successfully lobby at the PCIG to have the Pfizer vaccine made available through GP clinics.

Thanks also to Dr Maria Boulton and Dr Nathan Pinskier who represented us at PCIG and worked on behalf of GP clinics for them to be included in the Pfizer program.

GP clinics deliver vaccine at lower cost than the state run programs and capacity to deliver has only been limited by supply of vaccine. For the vaccine program to succeed the full power of General Practice to deliver vaccine safely and efficiently must be harnessed.
