DR. BERNARD SHIU
Director AGPA and Owner and Clinical Director of Banksia Medical Centre
Dr Bernard Shiu is the Owner and Clinical Director of Banksia Medical Centre in Geelong and Torquay. He served as the deputy chair of RACGP (Vic) for 4 years. He was awarded the GP of the year by RACGP in 2020. His clinics were awarded the National and Victoria Clinic of the year in 2023. He is an expert advisor for the Department of Health and SafeCare Victoria.
Besides running a very busy clinic, he also teaches medical students at Deakin Medical School and supervises registrars daily at his practice.
Bernard was born in Hong Kong and grew up in California, USA. He received tertiary education and clinical training across the globe with experience working in California, New York, Hong Kong, London, Notthingham, Darby and other parts of the UK. He eventually settled in Geelong more than 14 years ago and became a clinic owner in 2015.
Bernard is a keen musician and has been an active member of Geelong Symphony Orchestra and Australian Doctors’ Orchestra for many years. On top of that, he plays the bass guitar for ‘The Euthymics’ which is a band make up of entirely GPs in Australia.
Outside of medicine and music, he also enjoys an active life style. You will find him on his bike around the Bellarine Peninsula over the weekends.
